Frozen Watermelon Mocktail (Or Cocktail)

Updated: Jun 5, 2023

Get ready for summer with this delicious drink

Frozen watermelon mocktail

After discovering all the health benefits of watermelon I had to create a new recipe with it! Mocktails are a drink similar to a cocktail, with no alcohol. Mocktails have risen in popularity, specifically during the most recent "Dry January." Some mocktails, such as this one, not only omit alcohol but also add ingredients with additional health benefits. Mocktails can be easily made into cocktails, making them a great way to include everyone.

This idea originated from a family favorite, watermelon gazpacho. By freezing the watermelon and using a blender, this tastes just like something you would drink by the pool on a hot summer's day. Flavors such as watermelon, lime, and jalapeño all complement each other. The watermelon adds extra health benefits. The natural sweetness from the watermelon means that no added sugars are necessary!

I made this for my Mom's friends the other day and they loved it. It was enjoyed as a mocktail, as well as a cocktail. The sweetness of the watermelon with the slight spiciness of the jalapeño complement each other perfectly.

Ingredients:

The measurements for this drink are all approximation. They can (and should) be changed based on your preferences.

  • About 2 cups of frozen, cubed watermelon

  • 1/2 of a lime - one full lime, juiced

  • 1/2 tbsp to one full tbsp of jared, diced jalapeños

    • I suggest including some of the jalapeños, as well as the juice

  • Ice-cubes (optional)

  • A few tbsp of sparkling water (such as Sanpellegrino)

  • Sliced jalapeños for decorating

  • Sliced limes for decorating

Directions:

Directions should always be short and to the point.

  1. Cube watermelon and put in freezer.

  2. For garnish, slice lime wedges and jalapeño (remove seeds). Place to the side for serving.

  3. Once frozen, combine watermelon, lime juice, jalapeños, and sparkling water into blender.

    1. If you are making a cocktail, add lime or plain tequila or vodka. Tequila will make more of a spicy margarita.

    2. The more sparkling water you add, the more "foamy" and less frozen it will become. I suggest adding some form of liquid to ensure easier blending.

  4. Blend and add ingredients to desired consistency and taste.

  5. Pour into desired cup.

  6. Top with sliced jalapeños and lime wedges.
